Election dates are set up a few years in advance. Certain procedures must be followed in order to have an item on the ballot. Special elections may also be called. Even though an election is scheduled, in some cases the election may not be held. This is true if there is an individual qualified to run for a political position and there is no opposition and there is nothing else on the ballot. As dates are subject to change by the Legislature, we recommend verifying information below with The Secretary of State’s Office as they have all election and candidate information on their website at www.geauxvote.com.

Proposed Election Dates for the Year 2026:

• February 7, 2026 – Special Primary, State Senator, 3rd Senatorial District (Qualifying Dates 12/17/2025-12/19/2025)
• March 14, 2026 – Special General, State Senator, 3rd Senatorial District
• May 16, 2026 – Party Primary / Municipal Primary (Qualifying Dates 2/11/2026-2/13/2026)
• June 27, 2026 – 2nd Party Primary / Municipal General
• November 3, 2026 – Congressional General / Open Primary (Qualifying Dates 8/5/2026-8/7/2026)
• December 12, 2026 – Open General

  Voting hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for regular elections, and 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for Federal Elections.
